On July 4th, the fiftieth anniversary of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was commemorated, a sui generis integration process that brings together 15 Caribbean nations as Full Members and also some associated territories.
CARICOM has made important commitments in the search for greater convergence and unity in the sub-region, with the ultimate purpose of creating a single Caribbean market and economy.
Although Cuba is not part of that community, it maintains solid and fraternal ties with those countries, holding summit meetings of heads of state and government of Cuba and CARICOM since 1992. Our Chair studies this meritorious experience of Caribbean integration, and has carried out countless teaching and research activities related to the subject, in which the diplomatic representatives of those nations accredited in Havana frequently participate. Our next XVII International Conference on Caribbean Studies (Havana, December 18-20, 2023), will be dedicated to this anniversary.

“CINCUENTA AÑOS DE LA COMUNIDAD DEL CARIBE”
El pasado 4 de julio se conmemoraron los cincuenta años de la Comunidad del Caribe (CARICOM), proceso de integración sui géneris que agrupa a 15 naciones caribeñas como miembros plenos y además algunos territorios asociados. La CARICOM ha asumido importantes compromisos en la búsqueda de una mayor convergencia y unidad en la subregión, con el propósito final de crear un mercado y economía únicas del Caribe. Aunque Cuba no es parte de esa comunidad, mantiene sólidos y fraternales vínculos con esos países, celebrándose reuniones Cumbres de Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de C uba y la CARICOM desde 1992.
Nuestra Cátedra estudia esta meritoria experiencia de integración caribeña, y ha realizado innumerables actividades docentes e investigativas vinculadas al tema, en la que participan frecuentemente los representantes diplomáticos de esas naciones acreditados en La Habana. Nuestra próxima XVII Conferencia Internacional de Estudios Caribeños (La Habana, 18 al 20 de diciembre/2023), se dedicará a esta efeméride.
