Although as a child she was not a lover of singing, over time it has become the essence of her being because “over the years, singing has turned into the beat of my heart,” said Tennicia De Freitas, known in the art world as Nekeita.
In an interview with CubaPLUS CARICOM, Nekeita spoke about her short but successful career, which, she confessed, was sparked by curiosity to try new things.
Nevertheless, the Guyanese singer added, “I have always been a lover of music since I grew up in a Caribbean home, it’s a tradition to listen to old-school reggae songs especially every day. Dance has also been my passion from a very young age, even long before I started singing. I suppose it all made sense,” she considered.
Regarding the musical genres she cultivates, she mentioned Reggae, Calypso, Soca, and Dancehall (all Caribbean genres). “We have embraced a significant part of Caribbean culture when it comes to music production, and often, it’s easier for artists like me to produce various music styles instead of just one.”
When asked about the stages where she has performed, she said, “I have performed at many national events in Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, New York, Barbados, and Jamaica, but
the most significant one was the 2020 World Expo i n Dubai.”
Speaking of her achievements up to this point, she considered, “My greatest achievement so far has been representing Guyana on stages worldwide and the genuine support I have received for
what I do.”
Finally, she wanted to thank all her fans for the support they have given her and said, “To all my followers, I appreciate your love and incredible energy.”
Nekeita, un corazón que late al compás de su música
Aunque de pequeña no era amante del canto, con el tiempo este ha devenido en su razón de ser pues “con los años, cantar se ha convertido en los latidos de mi corazón”, afirmó Tennicia De Freitas, conocida en el mundo del arte como Nekeita.
En entrevista concedida a CubaPLUS CARICOM, Nekeita habló sobre su corta pero exitosa carrera cuyos inicios, confesó, lo provocó la curiosidad por probar cosas nuevas.
No obstante, añadió la cantante guyanesa, "siempre he sido amante de la música desde que crecí. En un hogar caribeño es una tradición escuchar canciones de reggae de la vieja escuela, especialmente todos los días. La danza también ha sido mi pasión desde muy pequeña, incluso mucho antes de empezar a cantar.
Supongo que todo tenía sentido", consideró.
En cuanto a los géneros musicales que cultiva, mencionó al Reggae, el Calipso, Soca y Dancehall (todos del Caribe) y, dijo: “hemos adoptado gran parte de la cultura caribeña en lo que respecta a
la producción musical y, a menudo, a diferentes artistas como yo, les resulta más fácil producir varios estilos de música en lugar de solo uno”.
Al responder una pregunta acerca de los escenarios donde ha actuado señaló que “me he presentado en muchos eventos nacionales en Guyana, Surinam, French Guiana, Nueva York, Barbados y Jamaica, pero el más importante ha sido la Exposición Universal 2020 en Dubái”.
Al hablar de sus éxitos hasta el momento consideró que “mi mayor logro hasta ahora ha sido poder representar a Guyana en los principales escenarios de todo el mundo y el apoyo genuino que he recibido por lo que hago”.
Finalmente quiso agradecer a todos sus fanes por el apoyo que le han brindado y dijo “a todos mis seguidores, aprecio su amor y su increíble energía”.
