Amanda Richards, considered one of the best photographers in her country, is a fervent lover of the art of light, but dislikes posed images. She prefers capturing the spontaneity of a moment or an emotion.

 “I like to capture the spirit of a moment. I’m not someone who enjoys taking posed photos, so if you ask me for a glamour or fashion session, I will most likely refer you to someone else. I prefer to capture the true essence, the real image, the real moment... Natural,” she said to this publication.

 Her beginnings in the world of photography were almost casual, as she started to help her son with a school assignment.

 The task was to present snapshots of wooden buildings in Georgetown. At first, she thought of searching on Google, but not being satisfied with what she found, she embarked on a great journey through the city with her son, Christian.

More than a work trip, it was an adventure, and they covered a large part of the city in search of their objective: wooden buildings. “We took photos of the Red House, all the wooden buildings we could find, St. George’s Cathedral, of course, and uploaded them to Flickr, which is a site for sharing photos online, so that other students could get better photos to use,” she explained.

From then on - in 2009 - she began to delve into the world of photography. She started reading articles about photography, watching YouTube videos, trying to learn everything she could about this new hobby.

And it can be assured that what she started almost casually now constitutes her great passion.

Amanda has a vast “arsenal” of photos under her belt and numerous awards and recognitions, including the New York State Citation, Godfrey Chin Journalism Award finalist (2018), Guyana Annual Photography Award, and an award from the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha. Her collection includes major cultural events, dance shows, landscapes, the Rupununi Rodeo, flora and fauna, and historic places.

“I still have a lot to learn, but every time I pick up my camera, I learn more. And that’s what drives me,” she concluded.

 Amanda Richards, considerada una de las mejores fotógrafas de Guyana, es una furibunda amante del arte de la luz pero no le gustan las imágenes posadas, sino la espontaneidad de un momento o una emoción.

“Me gusta capturar el espíritu de un momento. No soy alguien a quien le guste hacer fotos de poses, así que si me dices que quieres una sesión de glamour o de moda, probablemente te recomiende a otra persona.

Prefiero capturar la verdadera esencia, la imagen real, el momento real... Natural”, dijo a esta publicación. Sus inicios en el mundo de la fotografía fueron casi casuales, pues lo hizo para ayudar a su hijo en una tarea escolar.

Era presentar instantáneas de edificios de madera de Georgetown. En principio pensó buscar en Google, pero al no quedar satisfecha con lo encontrado inicio un gran recorrido por la ciudad junto a su hijo Christian.

Más que un viaje de trabajo fue una aventura y ambos recorrieron gran parte de la ciudad en busca de su objetivo: edificaciones de madera. “Tomamos fotos de la Casa Roja, de todos los edificios de madera que pudimos encontrar, la Catedral de St. George, por supuesto, y las subí a Flickr, que es el sitio para compartir fotos en línea, para que otros estudiantes pudieran obtener mejores fotos para usar”, explicó.

A partir de entonces –en el año 2009- comenzó a incursionar y adentrarse en el mundo del lente, a leer artículos sobre fotogra-fía, ver videos en YouTube, tratando de aprender todo lo que pudiera sobre este nuevo pasatiempo. Y se puede asegurar que lo que inició casi por casualidad, hoy constituye su gran pasión.

Amanda tiene un gran “arsenal” de fotos en su haber y numerosos premios y reconocimientos entre los que figuran: Citación del Estado de Nueva York, finalista del Premio de Periodismo Godfrey Chin, Premio Anual de Fotografía de Guyana 2018 y Premio de la Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha. Su colección incluye impor- tantes eventos culturales, espectáculos de danza, paisajes, el Rodeo Rupununi, flora y fauna y, lugares históricos.

“Todavía tengo mucho por aprender, pero cada vez que tomo mi cámara, aprendo más. Y eso es lo que me impulsa”, consideró finalmente.
