Havana, which on November 16 celebrates its 506th anniversary, has long been one of the most visited destinations by travelers from across the globe–particularly its historic center, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved architectural ensembles in the Americas.
In general, visitors want to preserve memories of the places they discover, and travel photography is one of the most popular ways to do so, explains professional photographer Andro Liuben Pérez Diz. .
“The tourist,” he notes, “wants to visit iconic sites–in this case, in the city–and the photo is taken in such a way that the location itself stands out. In other words, the setting becomes a protagonist in the image.
” From his experience, travelers tend to arrive well-informed, prepared, and eager to see everything–not just the postcard–perfect spots, but also the less polished sides of life.
“What attracts them is learning about the real country. And most of them tell me they want to come back,” adds the author of the photographs of the Barbadian tourist featured on these pages. The same curious gaze that now greets you from our cover.

Las capitales de los países de la región son, en buena medida, espejo de sus atractivos. Calles bullicio-sas, sitios cargados de memorias, personajes típicos…
La Habana, que este 16 de noviembre cumple 506 años, ha sido uno de los sitios más visitados por viajeros de disímiles latitudes, sobre todo su centro histórico, declarado por la UNESCO Patrimonio de la Humanidad y uno de los conjuntos arquitectó-nicos mejor conservados de América.
Por lo general, los excursionistas quieren conservar recuerdos de los lugares que han cono-cido y la fotografía de viaje es uno de los medios más populares para ello, según nos comenta el profesional del lente Andro Liuben Pérez Diz.
El turista, precisa, quiere visitar sitios simbóli-cos, en este caso de la ciudad, y se le toma la foto de forma tal que sea notable el lugar donde se encuentra, es decir, el escenario también tiene un protagonismo en la imagen.
De acuerdo con su experiencia, los viajeros vienen ya bastante bien informados, preparados y dispuestos a ver de todo, no solo la parte turística, también lo que no está tan bonito.
Lo atractivo para ellos es conocer la realidad del país, y a mí la mayoría me dice que quiere regresar, apunta el autor de las fotografías del turista barbadense que mostramos en estas páginas. La misma mirada curiosa que hoy engalana nuestra portada.
