Dear Readers:
Welcome to a new edition of CubaPLUS CARICOM! On this occasion, we explore a central concept for our region: “The Caribbean That Unites Us.” More than just a title, this expression reflects our purpose of strengthening ties, celebrating our shared identity, and promoting a future of collaboration and mutual development among the nations of the Caribbean.
It is an honor that this volume brings together the voices of Eugenio Martínez, General Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, and His Excellency Halim Majeed, Ambassador of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to Cuba, enriching this dialogue about the Caribbean that Unites Us with their perspectives, whose reflections enhance our work and encourage us to continue.
The horizon of 2025-2026 stands as a period of significant celebrations, marked by key anniversaries of independence and bilateral relations among various CARICOM states — alongside the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth, whose enduring legacy as a steadfast ally of the Caribbean continues to inspire.
In this issue, we share those must-visit corners that every traveler should experience when visiting the CARICOM countries.
We also delve into the vibrant world of art and design, featuring Tihara Smith, who brings Caribbean fashion to the spotlight in London, and Lénore Herrera, a
Cuban designer whose distinctive vision shines through in her exceptional creations.
Additionally, we also recognize the sporting talent of the region, applauding the dynamism and dedication of outstanding athletes from the area. Let us continue exploring, together, the bonds that unite us–and the promising
future that awaits.
