Minerva is the commercial name of Empresa Industrial Ángel Villarreal Bravo that specialises in cycle production and operates within the GESIME group of companies. For its general manager Eliel Pérez Pérez, a sense of belonging has become a natural part of his life. He started with the company as soon as he graduated as an engineer in 1990. Having passed through various positions he has developed a profound knowledge of the workings of the organisation, which is known among other things for its excellent workforce.
According to Pérez Pérez Minerva’s future is bright. Its recent approval as an asociación económica heralds many potential opportunities as it will allow a new assembly line that will help to satisfy the current demand on the ground in Cuba. “This year we will restart production on lines that had been halted and we hope to reestablish bicycle production capacity at the factory,” he said.
“Among other lines we will also continue to manufacture display shelving, which is very much in demand in the tourist sector. We have the capacity to produce much more this year.”
Sales director David Rodríguez explained that the company is renowned for its management excellence and its production competitiveness. It produces a wide range of cycles and related components, metal structures and parts for various purposes and wheelchairs for the national public health system. Import substitution is a priority, allowing national industry to meet national demand for parts and components and also to promote exports.
