For the eighteenth year running the drums are throwing a party in Havana from March 4th to 10th next year when the Festival del Tambor Guillermo Barreto In Memoriam returns to the city.
This annual week-long festival brings together top percussionists from Cuba and around the world to display their skills at concerts, contests and master classes.
A panel of experienced drummers will judge contestants and award prizes that include musical instruments from renowned instrument-makers such as Sabian, Gon Bops, Kosa, Ludwig, Promark, Sonoc and Evans Ae.
The festival will play out across various locations in Havana— the Karl Marx theatre, Salón Rosado de la Tropical, the Casa de la Música de Plaza 31 y 2, Hotel Palco and El Sauce cultural centre. On top of the percussion competition, there will be salsa and rumba dance contests including a special children’s event. Percussion and dance master classes plus individually tailored sessions will also be on offer.
