Get ready, ‘coz sooner or later Florentino Perez himself will be landing in Havana to create the Madridist Church of Cuba… Think I’m joking? Real Madrid legend Emilio Butragueño himself came to be part of a clinic with hundreds of kids whose dreams are to become the next CR7… And dreaming is free of charge…
Seriously, the former soccer legend vowed to extend links between Real Madrid and Cuba to strengthen soccer on the island. “We hope this is only the beginning and our presence to be more consistent,' said the retired soccer player, nicknamed 'El Buitre', after meeting 100 children from several schools in Havana, as part of a workshop that a Real Madrid soccer foundation is developing in the far west of the city.
The head of institutional relations at Real Madrid didn’t rule out the recruitment of Cuban players in the future. “You never know. What we want is talent; nationality is not important. Soccer is becoming increasingly globalized and nothing is imposible”, stressed.
The workshop Fields of Experience is part of the project Learning Values through Football, and helped a hundred of boys and girls selected due to their human values, more than their sporting talent.
