The British Chamber of Commerce of Guyana (BritCham) and the Iwokrama International Centre (IIC) signed an agreement with the aim of improving conservation efforts while promoting sustainable forest management in Guyana, which represents an important step in aligning business practices with environmental management.
According to local press reports, the memorandum signed by Dane Gobin, CEO of Iwokrama, and Faizal Khan, President of BritCham Guyana, will facilitate cooperation between the two institutions in promoting projects that support Guyana's Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).
The signed document contemplates the sustainable management of tropical forests, the preservation of coastal and marine ecosystems and action against climate change and aims to implement joint initiatives, including social and biological assessments, education and awareness campaigns, livelihood initiatives, research, sustainable forest management and fundraising efforts.
