Belize Acknowledges Strong Ties of Brotherhood and Cooperation with Cuba

The government of Belize reaffirmed the strength of its bonds with Cuba for national development on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The celebration, held this Wednesday at the Belizean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Culture, and Immigration of Belize, Francis Fonseca. He was accompanied by the Vice Minister, Amalia Mai, and the Cuban Ambassador to Belize, Mary Cary Balaguer Labrada.

Fonseca stated that Cuba is "a valuable partner in Belize's development, particularly in the areas of health, education, sustainable development, disaster risk management, and various areas of technical cooperation."

The head of diplomacy reiterated Belize's support for the lifting of the United States blockade against Cuba, the removal of Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and reaffirmed his government's commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship and collaboration with the Cuban government and people.

Ambassador Balaguer referred to the cooperation between the two nations in various sectors and highlighted the presence of Cuban medical collaboration in Belize for the past 34 years. She expressed gratitude for the support in the fight against the blockade and recalled the professional training in Cuba of more than 250 young Belizeans in the fields of health, sports, technical sciences, social and pedagogical sciences.
