World Environment Day is celebrated today in all countries and, of course, in Cuba, despite the difficult situation caused by the new Coronavirus, which forces people to respect isolation to avoid the spread of that dangerous virus.

There have been multiple activities scheduled for this celebration, including a photographic contest called by the territorial delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) of the province of Pinar del Río - headquarters of the central activities for Environment Day in 2020-, to interested parties from all over the country.

The central motto of the contest, which takes place online until the next day 30, is biological diversity and snapshots can be sent that reflect the natural values in each category, including: My city with images that reflect the harmony of the city in which the contestant resides; My protected areas with photos of any of those sites; and For a sustainable environment with local initiatives that contribute to the mitigation of environmental problems.

In 1972, the United Nations General Assembly designated June 5 as "World Environment Day", with a view to deepening the universal awareness of the need to protect and improve the environment. The images to compete will be sent in JPG format accompanied by the author's information: name and surname, age, home address and municipality where he resides; as well as a synopsis that includes the year, place from where and how the photograph was taken and the descriptive components. The electronic addresses are: areas.protegidas@citmapri.gob.cu and delegacionpr@citmapri.gob.cu
