(II) Cuba and the wonder of its landscapes

Today we continue with the second part of the article on the most wonderful landscapes of Cuba, also known as the Pearl of the Caribbean because of its natural beauty and, especially its beaches, in addition to its cultural traditions place it as one of the preferred destinations in the region.

Magical Havana The “Wonder City”, as Havana has been known since 2016 when it received that title, granted by thousands of people in the third annual contest held by the Swiss foundation New7Wonders, was definitively founded in 1519 in the shade of a leafy ceiba tree and suddenly became a very cosmopolitan city, full of travelers from all over the world eager to get to know it in depth.

The Villa of Saint Cristopher of Havana, as it was originally named, was founded on November 16th on the shores of Puerto Carenas, after having an initial settlement in 1515 on the southern coast of the country. It covers 732 square kilometers and has 15 municipalities, of which nine are completely urban; 4.5 square kilometers correspond to the old part known as Old Havana, the most interesting, and of these, 2.5 square kilometers are the most visited.

This part of the city, much visited by every traveler who comes to the city, contains a great history that is reflected in every street, every house and every corner. There are many buildings that hold unforgettable events. The set of fortresses, forts and towers built more than 500 years ago to protect the city was one of the reasons for it to achieve the title of World Heritage Site in 1982, granted by UNESCO.

Cuba-Varadero.jpgAnother of the many attributes is, without a doubt, the Malecón, where every night nationals and foreigners, especially in the intense summer season, sit on its wall to take in the exquisite sea breeze. Museums, parks and avenues that contain numerous and unforgettable events are part of the beautiful city landscapes and one cannot forget the National Capitol, full of legends.

Varadero is the most beautiful beach on the Island, which stands out on international lists in terms of the Sun and Beach modality. Varadero is the most important recreational center in Cuba. Located about 140 kilometers east of Havana, the capital of the country, it always appears as a privileged place for its transparent waters and very fine white sand. With more than 60 hotels and around 21,400 rooms, 80% of which are 4- and 5-star accommodations, this resort is a paradise, since from any point along the Hicacos peninsula you can enjoy wonderful views of the crystalline waters of Varadero, which undoubtedly capture the preference of everyone who visits it.
