The 22nd edition of Meetings and Incentive Travel Market of the Americas (MITM Americas) opened on Tuesday in Havana as an additional opportunity for Cuban tourism, in the sector of travel to congresses, meetings and incentives.
The convention is the third organized in this destination, ratifying the island as hosting scenario for debates and business opportunities in the world of these trips. It is about the international fair MICE B2B, pioneer in this sector and most influential in the Americas and the Caribbean, as described by tourism professionals. MICE is the English acronym to identify this type of high level meeting. Scheduled to take place at the hotel Melia Cohiba of this capital, on September 18 through 21, it will give the Cuban tourism industry a unique opportunity to promote services, infrastructures and marvels offered by the greater of the Antilles. This event will gather at least 100 international buyers of 30 countries (Europe and the U.S. mainly). Tour operators consider the venue the highest-level one of the tourism industry, besides the opportunity to know the rest of the island to complete their programs of incentives, congresses and conventions. Organizers expect executives of corporations (19 percent), incentive agencies (27 percent), meeting planners (25), international associations (10) and tour operators (19). As part of this edition, the First Congress of Actual (Group for the development of Culture and Tourism in Latin America) scheduled for September 21 in the Hotel Nacional de Cuba. To this congress, organizers summoned over 200 agencies and tour operators mainly from Latin America. The meeting is organized through pre-established appointments implemented to 99 percent. An exclusive program of networking, together with an agenda of up to 30 dates, guarantees the contact among all participants, promoting strong commercial links. A while before beginning,l organizers received applications of 500 companies of 47 countries interested in participating. Both editions held previously in Cuba: Varadero (2004) and Havana (2009), greatly contributed to Cuba's development in this tourism sector.
