The Biological Biodiversity and Tourism Workshop (BIOTUR) is closing on Sunday after three days devoted to launching new nature tourist products in eastern Cuba.
Yoel Dominguez, director of ECOTUR's eastern office, told Prensa Latina that during these days, the event promoted the biological diversity and sociocultural resources of the communities. BIOTUR covered areas of the provinces of Holguin and Santiago de Cuba with some ten excursions in the Holguin municipality of Gibara and the Mensura Pilotos and Pico Cristal national parks. In Gibara, the main venue of the event, keynote speeches were given, films were screened and three of ECOTUR's main excursions were promoted in that area during the first day of the meeting: a Nautical and speleotourist journey, a Visit to Tanque Azul (Cuba's largest flooded cavern) and On the Way to the Mares River. Each excursion has multiple attractions in which visitors harmoniously combine navigation, swimming in rivers and beaches and hiking with bird watching and scenic landscapes. This BIOTUR edition was attended by tour operators from Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada and Russia, as well as the tourist agencies Havanatur, Cubatur, Viajes Cubanacan and ECOTUR.
