Spanish Dancers Hope to Perform a Unique Flamenco Show in Cuba

Spanish dancers Maria Juncal and Alfonso Losa aspire to offer on Tuesday a unique flamenco show in Cuba on the closing day of the 26th International Ballet Festival of Havana Alicia Alonso.

A flamenco artist means being in love with art, a person sensitive to culture, living for art, with a special sensibility, said Losa, producer and director of the show with Juncal. The Marti Theater will host the proposal of the Spanish artists who inaugurated the second International Flamenco Encounter in Havana on Monday, in collaboration with several local companies. According to Losa, he and Juncal seek to express the potential of flamenco, with singing, guitar playing, a man's and woman's dance, but they also plan to get carried away by improvisation so that what happens today is unique. In his opinion, flamenco is the ambassador of Spain in the world at the cultural level and evolved a lot on the technical level after being nourished by numerous dances and rhythms such as tap and Latin jazz. Losa told a press conference that due to the economic crisis in Spain many flamenco artists of excellence have had to climb the tablaos, then right now the best exponents dance for tourists in public places and this has a good side because it spreads more that artistic expression. He and Juncal have several performances in the United States and the Netherlands in the coming weeks, but before that they want to show their passion in Cuba, because for them dance is everything.
