Tour operator TUI resumes flights to Varadero resort

German tour operator TUI will resume as of October 25 two weekly direct flights from the United Kingdom to Varadero resort in Cuba, an official source from the Caribbean nation confirmed in London on Wednesday.

Joel Hernandez, Tourism adviser at the Cuban Embassy in London, told Prensa Latina that TUI Airways, which stopped flying to the Caribbean nation in 2018, decided to reintegrate it within its tourist destinations due to its popularity with British tourists.

The tour operator had only planned to connect Manchester with Varadero resort once a week this winter, but due to its high demand, it decided to add another flight from London, Hernandez noted.

The increase to two weekly departures shows the real demand for Cuba as a travel Destination among British vacationers, said the official, who stated that TUI Airways has a long history with Cuba.

TUI's first flight to Varadero resort this season, to be run until April 2021, will depart on Sunday, October 25, from London Gatwick Airport and the second flight will take off from Manchester, England's second largest city, on November 1.

Hernandez also stressed that the restart of TUI operations is an explicit recognition of Cuba's progress in fighting Covid-19, and highlights Varadero resort's unbeatable quality as a safe tourist destination.
