World Rock Day

World Rock Day

By Rose Ross

Among the most internationally heard musical genres, Rock stands out, made up of several sub-genres such as folk rock, psychedelic rock, heavy metal and punk.

Since 1950 many identify with that sound and the concept that it proclaims, which has served as a vehicle for the development of sociocultural movements such as Hippies in defense of the planet and the human being.

In 1985 the organization "Band Aid Trust" was founded by Irish singer Bob Geldof with the aim of raising funds for countries of the African continent that were experiencing a humanitarian crisis.

On July 13 of the same year, the mega concert “Live Aid” (in Spanish “Live Help”) was held simultaneously in London, UK, Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, USA, Sydney in Australia and Moscow, capital of Russia. with an approximate duration of 16 uninterrupted hours.

The concert included the most recognized singers and rock bands of the moment, including Led Zeppelin, Queen, Scorpions, Elton John, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and Phil Collins.

The success of the artistic movement and the number of attendees was such that the sum of $ 100 million was exceeded to help the peoples of Africa. For the relevance of this initiative and the beneficial results it has brought to the humanitarian cause since 1986, every July 13, World Rock Day is commemorated.
