Young DJs in Cuba Can Compete for New Creative Grant

Cuba's Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) and the British Council will launch a call for entries today for a grant aimed at young DJs, as part of the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the organization of creators.

The initiative aims to support the work of Cuban DJs and is named after outstanding musician Edesio Alejandro, winner of the National Music Prize. Its creation also responds to proposals from members of the young vanguard in various provinces; the details of the contest will be made public through the AHS digital platforms.

The national president of the Cuban organization, Yasel Toledo, specified that the contest, sponsored jointly with the British Council, is part of a platform of opportunities for young talent and is framed within the celebrations for the association's 40th anniversary, the central day of which is October 18.

The programming for the fourth decade, which runs until October 31, seeks to reach communities, schools, and workplaces with artistic performances across the institution's 32 provincial branches, the president explained in a previous press conference.

Toledo highlighted that the event fosters a reunion among creators and consolidates efforts on behalf of Cuban culture.

The winners of the grant, whose submission deadline closes on October 20, will receive professional equipment and participate in live performances.

The AHS leadership noted that the contest joins other competitive initiatives that promote literary, musical, and stage creation, including an international call for the renowned Timbalaye Grant.

The anniversary will be marked by the premiere of multiple audiovisual, literary, and musical works, as well as the Aldabón Literary Prize, the 2026 Masters of Youth Awards, the Alma AHS Distinction, the presentation of replicas of the monument to the Saíz brothers, and the Hispanic-American Meeting of Writers.

These events are complemented by the television programs Proyecto Hermanos and the fourth season of Mirada AHS.

"We want this celebration to serve to bring us closer together, to keep dreaming, and to achieve great things in favor of young artists and our country's culture," stated the AHS president.
