The Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) in Cuba develops an integral strategy that impulses the sector, which includes the construction of 252 new hotel-related installations, 68 applications and 90 projects for their increase in category by the year 2030.
In full celebration for half a century since its foundation, and in the middle of difficult economic times, Havana is focusing hard on international tourism, evidenced by activities such as the restoration of outdated and construction of new hotels. Just this year, the opening of a dozen hotels is predicted, in order to raise the room count to over 12,500, a little over half of them in 4 or 5 s tar hotels.
In recent months the hotels, palacio cueto in Old Havana and Vedado Azul in Vedado have been opened to public, and the Deauville, Lincoln, Sevilla and Neptuno-Triton hotels are planned to be repaired in the near future.
Likewise the reanimation of extra-hotel services such as restaurants, marinas and golf clubs will be restored. Other names on the list include: Gran Hotel, an old guest house near Capitolio, Hotel Corona, which mantains its name as the old tabacco factory it used to be, on 1ra and D Streets in Vedado, and 3ra and 70th (Miramar) and 25 and K Streets (Vedado).
The construction of SO/ Hotel Paseo del Prado, located in one of the most significant places in the Cuban capital, stands out with a Five Plus Star rating and the first SO/ brand hotel by Accor, a French company, in the country. From the boat-like tower of the hotel, visitors can view the Malecón, the Castle of the Three Kings of Morro, the San Salvador de la Punta fortress and the Habana Historical Center, the most touristic places in Havana.
With 10 floors above street-level on a five square meter area, SO/ Havana Paseo del Prado boasts rooms 250 rooms, including 36 suites.
The chain’s spokesmen inform that &the rooms, sized 34 to 64 square meters, will have elegant contemporary furniture, a neutral palette with splashes of color, top technology and well known-branded amenities."
