Prominent Caribbean academics and artists will analyze Cuba's role in the region as part of the Carifesta program in Barbados, the Organizing Committee announced today.
Carifesta, the region's foremost cultural event, will host a discussion this Sunday focusing on Cuba's relationship with the wider Caribbean.
Entitled "Speaking of Cuba and Fidel," the event, according to organizers, will provide an opportunity for collective reflection on the island as a political, artistic, and ideological point of reference.
The gathering, which is free and open to the public, will take place in an emblematic theater in Bridgetown. It describes Cuba as a nation that occupies a unique space within the Caribbean imagination.
The Barbadian hosts affirm that the island is fundamental to "understanding Caribbean civilization," and as such, the forum will address its history, the Revolution led by Fidel Castro, its political resistance, and its cultural contributions, spanning music and dance to literature and the visual arts.
The call for debate aligns with the spirit of fostering intellectual dialogue alongside artistic expression and announces a panel of historians, sociologists, writers, and artists from various Caribbean nations, including Cuban poet Nancy Morejon, a special guest at Carifesta.
