Ramón Peña Industrial Company: New Projects, New Projections

The Ramón Peña Industrial Company (EIRP), located near the roundabout of Guanabacoa in the province of Havana, currently serves as an example of what can be achieved when there is a commitment to reaching new projects for social benefit.

17-ramon-penna-industry-company-cuba-2.jpgBelonging to the Business Group of the Steelworking Industry (GESIME), this entity has historically been linked to the production of transportation equipment for the industry, as its predecessor dates  back to 1950, when the Mechanical Equipment Construction Company was created, specializing in the manufacture of collectors,  compactors, dump beds, platform beds, trailers, and semi-trailers, among other productions, a"er the revolutionary triumph of January 1959.

But its history does not  end in that year, as under the name “Ramón Peña,”  it began operating in 2012 with the merger of the Mechanical Equipment Construction Company (CEM) and the Guanabo Industrial Company, and six years later, the Basic Business Unit (UEB) Caribbean Mechanical Industry (IMECA), better  known as the “Cart Factory,”  was incorporated, thus  increasing its productive experience.

With that background, it is logical that the entity, always seeking ways to  develop, is engaged in new projects that, in addition to diversifying its services, will place it in a prominent position  within the sector.

In statements to CubaPLUS  Magazine, the director of the entity, Yosvany Fuentes, spoke about the innovations they are carrying out, including one developed with a non-state  micro, small, and medium  enterprise (MIPYME) for the  benefit of coal, to which they will provide all technological services.

17-ramon-penna-industry-company-cuba-3.jpgHe further mentioned a program undertaken with the  Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of the country (CITMA) to utilize sawdust waste aimed at manufacturing ovens, financed by a Spanish company that is expected to begin implementation in the second half of this year.

“Also,” he continued, “we have a plan for the execution of a cold asphalt line. We have designed a complete  cold asphalt plant, which has already been approved and we are linking it with a MIPYME from Antillana de Acero to utilize all the waste that comes from the foundry and use it in the production of construction  materials and to asphalt the streets of the city,” he explained.

In the agricultural sector, they are working on the  manufacturing of di!erent types of mills for biofertilizer production and mentioned the plant located in Cotorro, in southern Havana, and a defibrillator mill for coconut husks aimed at obtaining substrates for hydroponic crops that is currently in the testing phase with Bacuranao company.

But Ramón Peña also aims to cross borders and is working  on promoting concrete mixers with the goal of placing them in Bolivia and is also striving to gain clients in the Caribbean.

“All these projects,” the  executive finally stated, “are new productions whose objective is to diversify our services to meet our clients’ requirements and, above all, achieve the financial sustainability that the company needs."
