The most celebrated wine experts from the American continent, and the world, will be at the Cancun- Riviera Maya Wine and Food Festival 2012.
One of the boldest voices in the development of the “harmony of molecular cuisine” is sommelier François Chartier, the only Canadian to receive the Grand Prix Sopexa for Best Sommelier in the world for French wines and spirits, and the bronze medal in the World’s Sommelier competition based in Tokyo.
He is the author of Taste Buds and Molecules - The Art and Science of Food and Wine; awarded the world’s most innovative cuisine book at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Paris in 2010.
François’s collaboration with Chef Ferran Adrià resulted in more than 30 dishes that we featured on the elBuli 2009/2010 menu. Chartier also appears in the documentary elBulli: “Cooking in Progress,” and is currently working on the filming of “The fabulous story of Taste Buds and Molecules,” directed by Patrice Sauvé.
In the spring of 2009, Canadian Elyse Lambert won the title of Best Sommelier of the Americas in a competition that took place in Buenos Aires. The following year she represented Canada in the international competition for the title of Best Sommelier of the World, and was ranked among the top 12.
She has been invited by the Court of Master Sommeliers, where she may receive one of only 180 MS titles that exist around the world. She is currently Chef Sommelier of the restaurant Le Local in Old Montreal.
Véronique Rivest has retained the title of Best Sommelier of Canada since it was first awarded to her in 2006. The following year she was named Wine Woman in Paris, and was in the top 12 in the Competition for Best Sommelier of the World in 2007 and 2010 editions. Véronique is also a gifted speaker and writer that completes the unique combination of skills which have led her to participate in the most prestigious publications, radio and television programs specializing in wine and cuisine. Beyond these distinctions, Véronique is an authentic and accessible woman and one of the most respected sommeliers in and outside Canada.
Cancun is located in the northern part of the southeastern Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It is Mexico’s number one tourist destination and is known all over the world for its spectacular beaches, unique beauty and breathtaking turquoise waters. Cancun’s shoreline recently underwent a $71 Million Dollar makeover, that featured 1.3 billion gallons of sand to renovate the Hotel Zone’s seashore. The most popular tourism destination in Mexico and Latin America has also added to its sun, beach, and nightlife, by creating a unique five-day route that will offer visitors a chance to experience adventure and interact with nature.
Cancun and the Treasures of the Caribbean invite travelers to discover the vast natural, cultural and gastronomical cultures of Puerto Morelos, and the four islands of the Mexican Caribbean: Holbox, Isla Mujeres, Contoy and Cozumel.
Cancun is a multifaceted destination that combines nature, historical Mayan culture, glamour, luxury and world class tourism with the seduction for adventure, the passion for paradisiacal nature and the enchantment of gastronomical magic.
