For Jeniffer Yanes Mederos, fashion is one of the most evident manifestations of a people’s identity, since clothes allow a person to be “read” without being spoken to, contrary to those who view fashion as trivial and superfluous.
She is a recognized costume designer who despite her youth has already gained vast experience in the world of fashion. In addition to a degree in Sociocultural Studies from the University of Havana she is a graduate of the San Alejandro Provincial Academy of Arts. She has shown her work at numerous events and fashion shows, including Havana Fashion Week and international fairs.
Cuban fashion according to Jeniffer, is in the early stages of a formative process in search of its identity. Like the traditional Cuban “ajiaco”--a rich soup made with many different ingredients--Cuban fashion is a complex blend that has taken bits of everything to create its own result.
The Medusa brand is owned by the designer and registered four years ago. The collection shown here was presented at the recent Havana Fashion Week.
