ABEXOL® is a nutritional supplement developed and produced by the National Center for Scientific Research (CNIC). It can be stated that bee products are mostly used in medicine. One of them, the wax, can be used to obtain the mixture of high weight alcohols, which is registered in Cuba as a nutritional supplement under the brand name ABEXOL®.
It also has a cytoprotective effect on the gastric mucosa and so can be used to treat peptic ulcers.
According to studies, the product protects the body from oxidative stress, an essential factor in in aging and the diseases associated with this degenerative process, especially for middle-aged and elderly people, including post-menopausal women, considering the increase in oxidative stress during aging and its impact on different systems of the body.
At least 20% of the world's population shows chronic symptoms that can be attributable to gastrointestinal disorders and, although many of them are not associated with organic lesions, a portion, between 5 to more than 10%, may be affected by gastritis or peptic ulcer. These diseases result from excessive acid secretions or decreased mucosal barrier defense.
Initially, animal studies demonstrated a significant antioxidant and anti-ulcer effect. The anti-ulcer action was found to involve multiple mechanisms, including an increase in gastric mucus secretion and an improvement in its composition. But gastroduodenal damage is not only related to acid secretions, but also responds to an imbalance between aggressive and defensive factors.
As an antioxidant agent, ABEXOL® can protect against aggressive substances such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), ethanol or conditions such as stress, whose induced damage is partly determined by so-called oxidative stress. The two aforementioned effects of ABEXOL® are shown to be key points in accelerating healing and improving ulcer symptoms, as evidenced in clinical trials.
ABEXOL® also has a moderate anti-inflammatory effect, demonstrated in patients affected by osteoarthritis. It significantly reduces pain, stiffness, improving physical functioning, as well as internationally validated scoring systems to measure patients' functional activity, a very positive result for those suffering from osteoarthritis and gastrointestinal disorders, in which ABEXOL® can be used as sole therapy or combined with NSAIDs.
Currently, this product is available in two forms: tablet or liquid and is exported to countries in Europe and Australasia.
