What is it? Ayurveda, “Science of Life”, ancient wisdom, millenary, with more than 5000 years of application in India Holistic Medical System alive in its conception, is integrated and complements modern medicine, creates a state of absence of disease achieving harmony of the individual and the environment that surrounds it.
It uses a multitude of therapeutic resources with the purpose of maintaining or restoring the balance of the body’s biological energies in order to promote rejuvenation.
Its principles are universally applicable to the daily existence of each individual with excellent results in face of a chronic illness, a physical or mental pathology, an unbalanced state of health or as disease prevention. What is it about? It is the traditional method of Ayurveda Medicine that cleanses the body and mind of toxins, giving it health and vitality. The strengthening of the state of health begins by renewing the internal strength; this is achieved with massages, treatments, Ayurveda medicines, diet, herbs, Yoga, meditation and Panchakarma routines. It is a wide range of resources with excellent results in the face of a chronic illness, a physical or mental pathology, an unbalanced state of health, or for the prevention of the disease.
How long does it last? It consists of 4 stages: 1. Initial stage of metabolic correction (Deepana/Pachana).
It is used to make the first check-up and the therapeutic design to be used by each patient, with duration of two days.
2. Body preparation stage (Purvakarma).
Multiple sessions of Abhyanga massage (different types) Swedana or steam bath (vashpa sweda) and Ghee treatment are included, this stage consists of seven days.
3. Biopurification Stage. It includes five therapeutic actions or treatments that will act for the elimination of ama (toxins), to purify and rejuvenate the body. These therapies are: Vamana, Virechana, Nasyam, Basti and Raktamoskshana. Not all of them are used in all people, the need of each organism will be attended to, nor can they all be applied at the same time. It consists of three days. 4. Diet after purification.
What is it for? The ancient Ayurveda teacher Sushruta (600 BC) defines health as follows: “A healthy person is one whose three biological functions (doshas), the digestive fire (agni) and the constituent elements (dhātus) are in balance, the excretion of body wastes is regular and his senses, mind and soul are calm”
(Sushruta Samhitā, Sūtrasthāna, Cap 15, verse 10)
Ayurveda is not only a complete and empirical System of Medicine but a philosophy that helps us to know and accept ourselves as we are, a way of life that teaches us how to give the most of ourselves, protecting our health and general well-being.
