EMCOMED. Guarantee and security of its services

With more than three decades of proven security in providing quality services, the Medicines Marketing and Distribution Company (EMCOMED) is currently a guarantee for its clients, due to its capacity and ample technological possibilities that allow it to meet their demands.

These are the reasons why EMCOMED plays a fundamental logistics role in the Cuban health sector, essential for guaranteeing a good quality of life for the island’s population.

When interviewed by CubaPLUS Magazine, EMCOMED’s Quality Director Ana Georgina Fonseca Urtiaga explained that the organization’s constant renewal guarantees the quality and safety of its logistics services. In addition, it is responsible for market research, so that all contractual and technical requirements are fully assured.

We also manage science, technology and innovation projects, aimed at continuous improvement in the different logistics processes and achieving the goal of being a 4 PL Logistics Operator (*), she said.

The executive indicated that the company, which belongs to the BioCubaFarma group, applies the Integrated Management System (IMS) to guarantee the organization’s continuous development, which has led to greater participative management, committed to increasing effectiveness and efficiency so as to make greater contributions to society.

The fundamental objective of the IMS, she said, is the constant improvement of service, processes and general organizational management, demonstrating the capacity to comply with the established requirements, through leadership of the directors and managers, value-based management and the development of policies that respond to clients and all the parties concerned in the organization.

In 2018, she added, the company set out to certify its Quality Management System through accredited certifying bodies, which materialized in six of its Basic Business Units (UEB) and in the Head Office by Lloyd’s Register and the National Standardization Office. The following year, it extended the scope of its certification to three more UEBs.

Our Quality Management System, stressed Fonseca Urtiaga, is integrated by several groups of standards, having as normative references ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001-2018, ISO 50001:2011, ISO 28000:2010, and Resolution 60/2011 of the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR), with a common denominator, which is the process approach, and applying riskbased thinking.

To achieve these commitments, she said, the company has an Integrated Management Policy, which is available and disseminated in each of our UEBs.

EMCOMED, she continued, applies the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle in all processes and in the Quality Management System itself. Another important aspect regarding the work quality is that the organization guarantees theoretical and practical staff training, responding to business and process needs, assuring efficiency and improvement in their performance, as well as in any planned changes.

Finally, she referred to the company’s projects in the near future. &We are preparing for 2021 the renewal of the certification and the extension of its scope to three other units.

Our vision is to have all 21 units of our company with their Quality Management System certified and to be achieving the certification of others, such as the Environmental Management System and the Occupational Health and Safety Management System."
