Issue six of CubaPlus magazine was a lot of fun for us to put together for you. Naturally, as has become our tradition, we included a bit of Cuban reality you may not see in Canadian media: something of Cuba's successes in science or medicine, a taste of her justifiably famous music, arts and sports, including conversations with the artists, and a glimpse of flora and fauna in one of the many protected nature spots.
Of course, it's always enjoyable (for us too) to revisit "must-see" spots in Cuba like an evening at the Jazz Cafe and a stroll along the Malec?n in Havana, relaxing on the beach and in the sea at Jardines del Rey or stopping to explore Matanzas on the way to Varadero.
However, what was most enjoyable for us this edition was discovering little known (to tourists anyway) sites and sharing them with you; such as the Christmas fireworks and revels in off-the-beaten-track Remedios, the Iznaga Palace and pharmacy in Sandi Spiritus, and the Juan Gonzalez Falls in the outskirts of Santiago de Cuba, which will be covered in the next issue These special tidbits you won't find in most guidebooks are something we'd also like to make a tradition.
We want to take this opportunity to extend many thanks to our former editor, John Kim, and wish him much success in his new endeavours.
