The National Center of Popular Music summons the 19th Edition of the Contest and International Festival of Drum Festival "Guillermo Barreto in Memoriam", which will be held in Havana, from March 23 to 29, 2020 in multiple venues such as: Karl Marx Theater, Pink Room of La Tropical, Old Square (Old Havana), Casa de la Música de Plaza 31 y 2, Palco Hotel, El Sauce Cultural Center, Karl Marx Theater Parking, and América Theater, among others. The program of the event includes international competitions in: Percussion, Casino-style dancing, and Rumba dancing. The bases of the Percussion Contest are: . The instruments evaluated in the Percussion Competition are: timbales or pailas, bongoes, drums, conga drums or tumbadoras and drum gowns. . Each contestant may compete in 2 instruments. There are no professional or academic requirements to participate. . The Jury is represented by prominent percussionists who will deliver as many prizes as they deem appropriate and their decision will be final. . The Organizing Committee will provide in the place destined for this purpose, all the necessary instruments to be used in the contest. Playing with personal instruments will only be allowed in case of not affecting the rhythm of the event and the jury will have the last word. The Genres to be evaluated are: Contradanza, Danzón, Cha cha chá, Charanga, Mambo, Son, Guaracha, Bolero, Salsa, Songos, Pilón, Afro or 6x8, Changüí, Conga Santiaguera, Conga and Comparsa Habanera, Mozambique, Rumba, Timba , Congo (Palo, Makuta and Yuka), and Abbakú. Note: The Jury can request any of these popular or Afro-Cuban rhythms. In the case of general or partial ignorance of genders, this will not be an impediment to participate, and the Jury will decide according to its members. . The jury will determine the duration of the performances depending on the quality and creativity that is displayed at the time. . In all instruments, a minimum of 2 genres are requested to be performed individually with a recording provided by the Organizing Committee, or a group of students from music or professional schools. There will be 1 or 2 improvisations in different styles, with the exception of the Batá Drums in which the 3 drums will be played simultaneously, with the understanding that these can be sung or not, and the jury will determine the &touches" or to which Saint of the Yoruba Religion will be interpreted in these instruments. . The Cuban contestants will be chosen in the pre-contest to be held on March 2 and 3, at the Teatro América from 1pm. onward. Cuban contestants from other provinces may appear in the qualifiers for foreigners on March 23 if they so decide, to avoid having to travel twice to Havana. . Runtime for couples in the Casino and Rumba Competition will be at the discretion of the specialists or jury. . . In the Casino and Rumba Competitions, a PRIZE will be given to BETTER CHILD SHOW. The Final Competition will be held on Friday, March 27 at one of the Festival venues at 8.00 pm, and the winning couples will be awarded on March 29 at the Karl Marx Theater at 3pm. . The winning couples of the Casino and Rumba Competitions, and the men and women who are winners in the Columbia Competition will be awarded by the festival with: Accreditation Diploma of the event; and two nights with all expenses paid at the Palco Hotel, sponsored by the Palco Business Group.
