Nearly 1,000 representatives from Cuba and another 50 nations will participate from April 25 to 29 in the BioHabana 2022 International Congress, its organizers announced the eve.
At a press conference, director of the Cuban Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industry Group (BioCubaFarma), Eduardo Martinez, explained that the event,
scheduled to be held in person and virtually, will feature 118 foreign speakers who will discuss the management of innovation and health worldwide.
For his part, Rolando Perez, director of Science and Innovation of that entity and head of the scientific committee of the event, pointed out that one of the largest delegations will be that of the United States, followed by Mexico.
He told Prensa Latina there will be a broad representation, not only of scientific personalities, but also of companies in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector from countries such as Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Venezuela, El Salvador, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina and others.
BioCubafarma’s market par excellence is Latin America, due to our culture and geographical position, and although other regions such as Asia have also been forming an important part of our exports, the Latin American and Caribbean region continues to be the most relevant.
For this reason, the commercial partners of these nations will come to debate among other issues about the experiences in their countries with Cuban products, he asserted.
It also means that a signing of new commercial agreements is expected and the strengthening of scientific relations given the potential of many of these territories of the continent in the branch of medicine and biotechnology.
Perez said that BioHabana 2022 will also feature speeches by two Nobel laureates, the American immunologist James P. Allison, who received the award in Medicine in 2018 for his discoveries in new treatments for the most lethal types of cancer in humans and research focused on the mechanisms of development and activation of T cells, as well as advances in novel immunotherapy strategies for tumors.
