Barranquilla-2018 Said Good-bye in Carnival Rhythm

Colour, music, dancing. The 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games could not say goodbye another way but in carnival rhythm, the greatest feast of all Colombia.

A show of approximately two hours was protagonist to Barranquilla’s extraordinary tradition, an ideal ending to Curramba la Bella (name given to this city) which was venue for 16 days to a sports festival. 

Thousands of athletes that stayed to the end walked the runway of the Metropolitan stadium of the city with coast to the Caribbean ocean, unleashed the feast with over 10 artistic expressions forming the distinctive rejoicing of the city. 

The musical production was a sketch of the Battle of Flowers, one of the most distinctive moments of the Carnival.

After the parade, the baton was passed on to Silvestre Dangond, a celebrity of the famous Colombian vallenato, who with his voice and music finished on a high note the splendid closing ceremony.    Before the music filled the stadium, a very emotive mayor Alejandro Char, exclaimed he was happy and proud of the beautiful feast of the Games.

Beautiful what Barranquilla can offer to the world. The city did its homework as had to be done, we demonstrated to the world that nothing is too big for us. Today, more than ever, I say, I stay in Barranquilla.

For his part, the president of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization, Steve Stoure, not only praised the organization of these competitions and the hospitality of Barranquilla citizens, but hwe assured &these Games 2018 were the best in history". 

This edition, besides setting a participation record of over five thousand 500 athletes of 37 countries, left the victory of Mexico as most medal-winning nation with 132 gold for the first time in 52 years, followed by Cuba with 102 titles.
