Because we are a country with a rumba feeling

From this Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 August, the 12 th edition of the Timbalaye Festival 2020 will be held. The international event will be part of activities proposed by the Cuban Ministry of Culture (Mincult) to close the summer season.

Due to the epidemiological situation facing the country and the world, it will be carried out online.

Because we are a country with a rumba feeling is the slogan of this edition, with which, in addition, the value of the Cuban rumba is ratified, a festive mixture of dance and music, and all inherent cultural practices, inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in November 2016.

Strongly rooted in Matanzas, the dance musical genre has hundreds of exponents who have given it prestige over time in Cuba and beyond the seas. Precisely dedicated to the imprint of women who defended it, the book is dedicated to Rumberas matanceras, a song to memory (Editorial Unosotros, 2020), by musicologist Roxana M. Coz Téstar.

The volume is an approach to recognized rumberas of the Athens of Cuba from a historiographic point of view. It is the result of the &María Teresa Linares" Research Grant awarded in 2016 by the Timbalaye Project, sponsored by the Saíz Brothers Association (AHS) as support for young talent.

In the prologue, the author refers &Between guajacos and soups, women dared to tell about their practice of rumba, of celebrations in neighborhoods with the smell of the river and the flavor of the port. (…) With the force of a shake of shoulders avoiding the "vaccination", thus we wanted to remove the dust and the oblivion of authors, who made the Matanzas rumba, an incredible story ".
