BioCen, born to succeed in biopharmaceutical sciences
Created three decades ago, the National Center for Biopreparations (BioCen) has achieved such development that today it is one of the main entities in the Cuban biopharmaceutical sector.
Dedicated to the research, development and manufacture of culture media necessary for microbiological diagnoses, the biopharmaceutical industry, water and food quality control, as well as plant biotechnology, the BioCen has facilities with modern technology equipment to comply with its mission.
Added to this are the highly qualified and experienced specialists who work every day in this important activity with an advanced quality management system for the production of various pharmaceutical ingredients, among other products that meet the necessary requirements.
There are multiple examples of the projects and medicines that can be cited, the result of the work of the institution and its scientists during these years, which speaks for itself of the work of great professionalism and efficiency carried out by BioCen.
Within this, it is important to mention the outstanding role played in the fight against COVID-19, since it has been responsible for the production of different medicines used in the protocol to combat this disease, such as Biomodulin T; Heberon, Hebertrans, Heberferon, Jusvinza from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology; Va-Mengoc-BC of the Finlay Vaccine Institute and Surfacen of the Center for Animal Health.
It has also been in charge of the design, development and production of a means for the transfer of samples of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. These projects and many more that could be mentioned have made it possible for this center to be categorized in 2013 by the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), as a science, technology and innovation entity and approved as a high-end technological company in 2020.
But BioCen does not stop and continues its overwhelming pace in research, such as in nanotechnology for the search and formulation of culture media with nanostructured clays, which offers advantages from the point of view of speed in diagnosis, in collaboration with the Center of Advanced Studies.
It is also designing a biological origin nutraseptic, with ingredients from agriculture, which consists of a nutritional supplement, in nougat format, to help prevent elements associated with Alzheimer's disease. It is also working on improving the five products in the line of the renowned Trofin, an important medicine for treatment of anemia, a supplement for athletes, and the three tablets with combinations of vitamins and iron salts.
For all these reasons, BioCen has been, is and will continue to be an important pillar in the national biopharmaceutical industry. May big congratulations and recognition for their work of 30 years reach all your workers this August 14.
