Books take over the largest of the Antilles in April

Every February, Cuba becomes the world capital of literature, with the International Book Fair, which is attended by the most important representatives of the country's publishers and those of numerous nations of the planet, who see in this event a relevant possibility of promoting the art of reading.

The main venue, as usual, is the Cabaña fortress, in the Cuban capital, although on this occasion the usual date was changed due to the epidemiological situation caused by COVID-19.

This year, the important literary event will take place as always under the motto "Reading is growing" and will pay tribute to the centennial of the birth date of Carilda Oliver Labra (notable poetess from Matanzas) and of Jesús Orta Ruiz (the Naborí Indian); also 120 years of Nicolás Guillén’s birth, known as the national poet, and 140 years since the publication of the poems collection Ismaelillo, by José Martí, and the novel Cecilia Valdés or La Loma del &Aángel, by Cirilo Villaverde.

Something that has filled the attendees of this event with expectations is that the guest country will be Mexico, which closely unites the largest of the Antilles through indissoluble ties of friendship and history.

Attendees will be able to know in depth the customs and traditions of the Mexican people through several hundred titles that will be exhibited at the fairgrounds in this 30th edition, as well as from numerous countries of the American, European and African continents, whose works of important authors will be offered.

During the 10 days of the literary meeting, from April 20 to 30, authors, editors, translators, designers, illustrators, distributors and general public attending will be able to enjoy a square designed for the exhibition, negotiation, commercialization and promotion of literature, Cuban and foreign.
