Bright Future for Cuban Percussion Assured

The security of having a relay assured for Cuban percussion was the main result of the 17th Fiesta del Tambor &Guillermo Barreto in Memoriam", event that concluded in this capital after a week of activities.

In the closing show there were spaces for prize awarding of the percussion and rumba and casino dancing, initiatives which little by little have consolidated due to the proven quality of contestants.    A jury made up by prestigious musicians of the island, among them the maestros Enrique Pla and Jose Luis Quintana &Changuito", elected the winners in the minors and women interpretation, bongo, bata drums, timbal, conga drum and drummer.

The common factor among those winners, besides the obvious musical talent, is the youth, result of the renowned artistic education system of Cuba and which hints at a sure future for that expression in the country.    The last performance of the present edition of the event also served to render tribute to the rumba group Los Papines and the promoter of that musical and dancing expression, Guillermo Amores.    The Papines is a fundamental grouping in the global expansion of rumba, expression declared Immaterial Cultural Patrimony of Humanity by Unesco.

Amores, tireless promoter, creator of the Rumba Cuban Team, gave life to the initiative of important results in the defense of values of that expression and their exponents.

The 17th Fiesta del Tambor was dedicated to Brazil, country with a culture of multiple and renowned musical values and, like each year to Guillermo Barreto, considered one of the most important percussionists of all times in America.
