Canada continues among Cuba's main partners

Canada continues to be one of Cuba's main partners in the commercial exchange of goods and is the second investor by volume of operations, despite the economic problems that affect all countries in the world in general, said the Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García Granda.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Canadian pavilion at the 39th edition of the International Fair of Havana (FIHAV 2023), García Granda highlighted the presence of the business community of that nation, which is also the main source of tourism in the Cuba destination and in this regard he meant that “Canadians love this country so much that despite the orchestrated campaigns against Cuba, and distorted information about our reality, this year we will reach more than 950 thousand visitors, with a recovery well above the rest of the markets.”

In tourism, we work to recover the presence of Canadian companies such as suppliers to the Cuban market, looking for formulas that allow it, within the framework of the economic transformations that, aligned with the Government's policy, offer new opportunities for the foreign business sector,” he added. Later he addressed the businessmen of that nation present at the fair and said that “ we want to ratify our willingness to continue strengthening our ties and despite the challenges that the current situation entails, we are in the best position to advance in that aim".

For his part, when the Canadian ambassador to Cuba, His Excellency Mr. Gregory Gartshore, spoke at the ceremony, he also highlighted the links that exist between both countries that date back more than a century and added that the largest of the Antilles is the best market in exports that his country has in the Caribbean and mentioned the joint work they develop in various sectors such as airport operations.

Regarding bilateral trade, Gartshore revealed that last year they spent one thousand 220 million dollars, more than 20 percent higher than the previous year, which shows the upward trend in that area. Canada is present at this fair with nearly 20 companies, among which representatives of companies from the province of Quebec and the Chamber of Quebec-Cuba Trade and Industries.
