La Canchánchara is celebrating

Created a little more than two centuries ago by the mambises, soldiers of the Cuban liberation army against Spanish colonialism, Canchánchara is celebrating, because this Friday the first festival of that exquisite cocktail was made in the city of Trinidad.

The inauguration of this festival was attended by important personalities of the art, sports and other sectors of the country, including the five-time world Greco-Roman wrestling champion, Mijaín López and José Castelar “Cueto”, Cuban cigar maker with six records Guinness in the making of the largest cigar in the world. Those collaborated in the preparation of a giant Canchánchara, 250 liters, with the aim to achieve the recognition as a Guinness Record.

It was an emotional afternoon, where several thousand Trinidadians and foreign vacationers enjoyed of that beautiful spectacle in Plaza El Jigüe, the founding site of the town, which celebrates its 510th anniversary early next year, and that this festival is included among the celebrations for that celebration.

This first edition of the Canchánchara Festival that will be held until this December 10th It has an extensive cultural program that includes numerous concerts by prominent artists, among them Waldo Mendoza, Haila María Mompie, Isaac Delgado and his orchestra, Maikel Blanco and its salsa Mayor, as well as the presentation of Trinitarian thunderstorms, troubadour discharges and peasant music.

-Likewise, a photographic exhibition will be held with the history of the family's clay. Trinitaria Santander, by photojournalist Raúl Abreu; tribute will be paid to the renowned deceased Cuban singer, Esther Borja, as well as 15 personalities of Cuban culture. They will be awarded the Excelencias Canchánchara, Tradition and Culture awards.

Regarding this important meeting, José (Pepe) López, its promoter, said the Festival is a dream shared by all, and where most of the manifestations are present with local artists and prominent national actors. However, if you wish to accompany this beautiful event from your home, you can also celebrate the 35th anniversary of the declaration of Trinidad as Cultural Heritage of Humanity, by preparing a Canchánchara.

Its recipe is easy and simple: lemon juice, honey, Havana Club rum and ice. Enjoy it!
