The domestic cat, as it is popularly and colloquially known, pussycat, michino, michi, misu, among other names, is a carnivorous mammal of the Felidae family.

It is a subspecies adapted to living with humans and is, together with the dog, the most popular domestic animal adopted as a pet, although it also helps in the fight against rodents.

Cats communicate through vocalizations. Most popular are its characteristic purring sounds, but it can howl, moan, growl, and snort. In addition, they adopt poses or expressions that inform their enemies or their caretakers of their mood or intentions.

Revered by some ancient cultures such as Egypt, and protagonists of countless cartoons such as "Puss in Boots", "Felix the Cat" and "Garfield", even a source of inspiration for poets such as Pablo Neruda's "Ode to the Cat".

Love for kittens marks three days on the calendar to indulge them: February 20, August 8 and October 29. Some of its most curious characteristics are their life expectancy ranging between 12 and 14 years. Each of its ears has 32 muscles and independent movements; they sleep between 13 and 14 hours a day and their body temperature range from 38 to 39 ° C.

In addition, they can jump up to 3.5 meters and use their nails to scale walls and trees. Their whiskers, called vibrissae, are amplifiers of their senses, allowing them to detect vibrations, air currents and movements at a distance.

Regardless the dates mentioned, domestic cats are a species to be celebrated, as they not only help relieve the stress from their masters by allowing themselves to be petted, but also are excellent pest controllers.
