For tourists who know Cuba, more than a vacation destination, the island is a great paradise due to its magnificent natural landscapes, its spectacular beaches, its unique history and the joy and hospitality that characterize its villagers.

That is why for those who visit Cayo Largo del Sur, located in the Canarreos archipelago, with just 37 square kilometers and 25 beaches, this place presents such beauty that it goes beyond the limits of the imagined.

During the recently concluded International Tourism Fair FITCUBA 2022, held in Varadero, the Gran Caribe group (Cuba) and the Blue Diamond Resorts hotel chain (Canada) agreed to have the joint management of all Cayo Largo facilities, which will start gradually for the 2022/2023 winter season.

Regarding this, Blue Diamond's Director of Communications, Miguel García, pointed out that for the entity he represents it will be a far-reaching project and a unique experience, since they are very interested in positioning the destination in international markets.

ATTRACTIONS OF CAYO LARGO DEL SUR

Due to its strategic position, this exciting island in the Caribbean Sea has an interesting history, as the most famous pirates and corsairs passed through there more than five centuries ago and even the great admiral Christopher Columbus in his trip to the island of San Juan.

Cayo Largo, which began its tourist development 40 years ago, has four hotels with a total of 1,348 rooms, numerous non-hotel facilities and around a dozen magnificent beaches, including Playa Sirena, Playa Paraíso and Punta Mal Tiempo.

One of the most famous is Sirena, which stands out for its very fine sand, a condition that allows you to walk on it barefoot without difficulty because it is always cool despite the hot summer sun. The islet also has a Sea Turtle Rescue Center, which can be visited every day.

Those interested can learn about the work carried out by two highly experienced marine biologists in favor of the conservation and protection of turtles, including the rescue of nests until the birth of baby turtles and then return them to their natural habitat.

Also when you go to Cayo Largo you can get to know the island of iguanas, interact with them and feed them. Another attraction is what is called the natural pool, whose depth does not exceed one meter in height, which allows to observe sea stars, as well as another suitable space to practice snorkeling and admire the fish without any danger.

These attractions can be enjoyed in one-day or two-day excursions –with a stay in one of the hotels- and departure from the airports of Havana and Varadero or by sea, through catamarans.
