Cienfuegos Highlights Major Strides in Tourism Development

Recent reports from Cienfuegos confirm that the province is meeting key performance indicators for its tourism development programs.

According to a report published in the national newspaper Granma, the tourism industry in Cuba’s south-central region is seeing significant progress, driven by the intensive efforts of its workforce.

Yuri Quevedo Pupo, the provincial delegate for the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR), stated that these advancements represent substantial growth toward the sector's strategic goals for the territory.

The official highlighted several infrastructure milestones, including the installation of solar lighting and the completion of various construction projects. Among these is the reconstruction of the Cabaret Costa Sur, a landmark recreational venue in the heart of the city.

Quevedo Pupo also underscored the major renovation currently underway at the Hotel Jagua, as well as the construction of the Hotel La Punta, which is slated for completion in 2026. Both projects are central to the province's strategy to enhance its appeal for both domestic and international travelers visiting the "Pearl of the South."

In line with modernization efforts, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have been inaugurated at key locations: the Hotel La Unión—situated within Cienfuegos’ Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage site—and the Ranchón de Aguada de Pasajeros, a strategic transit point for travelers.

Finally, the report noted that the resumption of flights between Toronto and Cienfuegos last December has bolstered the current high season. This route traditionally brings a significant influx of Canadian tourists to the Hotel Rancho Luna, which has also been refurbished to welcome visitors this year.
