Cinematheque of Cuba celebrates 63 years with international films

On the occasion of its 63rd anniversary, the Cinematheque of Cuba invites you to enjoy a select program that will show several international classic motion pictures in high definition.

The Cinematheque of Cuba’s program is scheduled until February 5 and will alternate with a selection of Noticieros Icaic Latinoamericanos (Latin American Newsreels), created by Santiago Alvarez in 1960 and produced by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) to show the world the reality of Cuba and Latin America.

In the words of its director, Luciano Castillo, the Cinematheque is one of the pillars of Cuban culture ‘due to its productions, the large number of its followers and its contribution to the national soul.’

This specialized library, which fosters research and teaching, has also promoted advertising posters since its establishment on February 6, 1960, as an institution attached to the ICAIC.

The National Film Archive also treasures short and feature-length films produced before its foundation, duplicate materials and exhibition copies made by the ICAIC, documents, scripts, books, photographs, posters, advertising materials, press clippings and information on Cuban and Latin American cinema.
