The movie "Killing Jesus", from the Colombian director Laura Mora, was presented in the competition of first work as part of the 39th Edition of the Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana.
The film, inspired in director's life, tells Paula's history (Natasha Jaramillo) who witnesses her father's murder in Medellin and she decides to take the law into her own hands in the face of the little attention from the official authorities.
Also played by Giovanny Rodríguez, this Colombo-Argentinean coproduction was written during almost ten years for Alonso Torres and Mora herself who has assured, in fact, have concluded the script in Havana.
"The last version of "Killing Jesus" was made in Cuba, when I came to a course and I finished in love with the city", she told, during the press conference celebrated the eve at the National Hotel in this capital.
"For that reason I was interested a lot to know what is happening here during the premiere. After seeing the film everywhere, a thousand times, with its premiere in the Yara movie, I cried but it was of emotion", the Director said.
According to the director, the film has a cast of nonprofessional actors and it was filmed chronologically during 36 days in the own city of Medellin caring all sets to preserve the naturalness of the scenes.
Until the moment, "Killing Jesus" has been presented in outstanding international events as the Festivals of San Sebastian, Toronto and Havana, where it was showed for the first time on last Friday 8th. It is also nominated better International Feature Film in the Festival of Cinema in Zurich, Switzerland.
Graduate in cinema production and direction at the RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, Laura Mora is also considered follower of the Colombian Víctor Gaviria (Medellin, 1955), recognized to shows up the today’s social reality in her country.
