The passage of Hurricane Rafael through western Cuba with great impact on the capital caused the suspension of the 40th International Fair of Havana due to the damage caused to ExpoCuba, the usual venue of the event.
During the information, released this Thursday by Oscar Pérez-Oliva, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (Mincex) and President of the Organizing Committee of the fair, he added that the decision unfortunately responds to causes of force majeure.
Pérez-Oliva spoke before national and foreign businessmen, official delegations, Chambers of Commerce and Promotion Agencies that participated in the business event to whom he recounted some of the damages caused by Hurricane Rafael in agriculture, housing, hospital infrastructure and the electrical system, among others, in the provinces of Artemisa, Mayabeque and Havana.
He also explained the damage suffered by different structures of the ExpoCuba fairgrounds, in the exhibition areas and surrounding areas, while urging the businessmen and different participating delegations to continue the work meetings with their Cuban counterparts, for which rooms with the necessary conditions have been set up in the National and Palco hotels and in the Convention Center.
Later, he announced the decision to move the date of FIHAV to a time of year outside the hurricane season, information that the Organizing Committee will announce later.
This meeting took place in the plenary hall of the Convention Center, during which he thanked the displays of support and donations received to help overcome the damage caused by the weather event.
