Cooperation Cuba-Canada to face climatic change is highlighted

The cooperation between Cuba and Canada to face the climate change is magnificent, the Americas Region’s environment specialist of the Ministry of Global Agenda from that North America country, Moreno Padilla highlighted.

As far as that’s concerned, the recent visit of our First Minister, Justin Trudeau, favored the signing of an agreement with the aim to strengthening the fruit production in the island to face up the global climate variation, he declared to Latin Press.

This project includes the supply of means so that agriculture in the biggest island of the Antilles adapts better to that performance, Padilla said in the mean hosting of the XVII Seminar of Canadian Studies, in the University of Havana.

With regard to the Canada’s commitments to face that natural phenomenon, we have a strategy to face it and to increase the green economy through a national plan and in which almost all the provinces are participating, he remarked.

Just like Cuba, Canada signed the Paris Agreement for the reduction of the greenhouse effect gases emission, and we committed to support the fulfilment of the Objectives for the Sustainable Development (ODS), he underlined.

To have an idea of that contribution, Trudeau made responsible in 2015 to 11 of his ministers to take on the climatic change as a key objective of their organisms, a true sign of the commitment on the subject, he stood out.

In the face of a question on how the Canadian provinces have taken conscience of the global warming effects, he applauds the way in that the media carries out campaigns in this respect.

However, to those who they don't receive that information by this means, the effects are noticeable when climate anomalies happens, as the forest fires which cause many losses.

Likewise, he added, the storms started in the Caribbean –more and more frequent - when arrive to Canada’s Atlantic provinces, although they are weaker, have had a great impact.

For that reason, I hope the participation in this meeting in Havana which concludes next Friday, give us knowledge about the projects and programs that are being carried out in this nation, to prepare ourselves better, and to improve the cooperation with this country, he concluded.
