The "Corazón Feliz" International Arts Encounter for Children commenced this Monday in the Cuban capital. Among the highlights of the opening events is a flash mob in the Plaza de Belén, performed by the renowned Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba company.
This performance is a nature-themed artistic intervention designed to "energize the urban space through the joy and magic of movement," singer-songwriter and festival director Rochy Ameneiro told Prensa Latina in an exclusive interview.
Ameneiro noted that this year's edition promises a vibrant array of creative collaborations and high-caliber artistic premieres. The opening day also paid tribute to prominent children's artists Rita del Prado and Rosa Campos.
The inaugural lineup featured performances by the choir Vocal Luna, the Havana Chamber Orchestra, and the musical group Espirales.
Running through May 31st, the festival's program includes a special tribute celebrating the 70th anniversary of Pelusín del Monte—the beloved national puppet created by writer Dora Alonso—featuring a major premiere by the theater company Teatro de las Estaciones.
"Audiences will also enjoy La Peña de Federico featuring Maykel Chávez, Annie Garcés, and La fiesta de Gatoypon, along with performances by Teatro La Proa, Titirivida, and La Colmenita," Ameneiro added.
The schedule also boasts premieres by Teatro Tuyo and the show La Comadrita by Rita del Prado and Dila Martínez, in collaboration with Teatro La Salamandra.
Furthermore, architecture and fashion will be integrated into the event through family workshops focused on recycling and the circular economy.
To navigate the logistical challenges posed by the country's current energy and fuel shortages, the organizing committee decided to concentrate all activities within the municipalities of Old Havana and Plaza de la Revolución.
Key venues opening their doors for this edition include the Martí Theater, the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Casa Corazón Feliz, the Orden Tercera Theater, the headquarters of La Colmenita, the José Martí Birthplace Museum, the National Theater, La Rampa Cinema, and the La Manigua Cultural and Creative Center.
Under the musical direction of Rodrigo García Ameneiro and the artistic direction of Rubén Darío Salazar and Zenén Calero, the encounter serves as a platform where a culture of peace and holistic youth development converge.
"While music is the heart of this project, we offer an all-encompassing experience that spans visual and performing arts, dance, storytelling, literature, culinary arts, and creative workshops. This diversity ensures that every child can find their own unique way to express themselves and connect with the arts," Rochy Ameneiro concluded.
