Costa Ricans relax in Cuba

Cuba is among Costa Rican’s favorite destinations, with a growth of 72 percent in 2016, according to the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners of that Centro American nation. The Caribbean island is just behind United Kingdom and Peru.

The statistics are similar to an increasing trend in the country's general departures, as a result of the diversification of air transportation offers and increased promotions of services for travel, according to organizations like the Costa Rican Tourism Institute and the National Chamber of Tourism.

Cuba has grown considerably in recent years and other destinations reported an increase in the number of Costa Rican visitors, although only for a few months. Agencies such as Viajes Colon stated that the constant phenomenon of Cuba and the temporary increase reported by Cayman Islands, Aruba or Jamaica is related to more offers of cruise travels to those destinations.

As a matter of facts, half a dozen cruise lines have begun sailing from United States to Cuba: Oceania, Azamara Club, Royal Caribbean, Regent Seven Seas, Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Line.

Last year, Cuba received 4.2 million foreign visitors, and aspires to a similar amount for the end of this year. Many of them came from Costa Rica, maybe the hottest tourism destination in Central America… Not bad!
