CTA Grants Flair Airlines Approval to Operate Flights to Cuba

The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has officially authorized Flair Airlines' application to operate scheduled international flights to Cuba, according to a recent announcement on the agency’s website.

To begin operations, Flair must adhere to the conditions set forth in the Air Transportation Regulations, as well as all other applicable regulatory requirements.

In related industry news, Sunwing Vacations and Vacances WestJet Québec are set to resume operations in Cuba via WestJet starting June 20. The program will offer vacation packages to Varadero (VRA) and Cayo Coco (CCC), departing from Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City.

Meanwhile, Air Transat issued a statement last month deferring its return to the island until June 20. Air Canada has further pushed back its resumption of flights until November 1, citing persistent operational constraints.

The announcement noted that all preliminary resumption dates remain subject to change.

These adjustments follow the suspension of services by several Canadian carriers last February. The move was triggered by a jet fuel shortage across Cuban airports, stemming from the country’s current energy crisis and disruptions in oil supplies from Venezuela.
