Cuban tourism authorities had expressed their interest to consolidate the hotel plant, so that it allows us to continue increasing the growing spiral of the trips toward this island.
The general manager of development, investments and business of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR), José R. Daniel Alonso, declared to the digital newspaper, Cubadebate, that the increase of the number of parcels for the construction of hotels in Havana is a good example of the mentioned strategy.
I’d like to point out, he said, that, starting from reconciliations with the Physical Planning Institute of our country, the renewed portfolio possesses nine construction projects in Havana, aiming to expand the accommodation capacity.
He said that, at this moment, the Cubanacan group negotiates with a Vietnamese company to make possible the construction of a hotel in the lands of the formerly children’s hospital Pedro Borras, placed on the corner of 27 street and G avenue, Vedado, in the capital municipality Plaza de la Revolucion.
He also argues that it is carry out a study with a Chinese company for the construction of another hotel in the land placed on 23 street and H street of the same municipality.
According to the official, the tourism business portfolio includes opportunities for the construction and commercialization of similar facilities in other lands located in the municipalities Plaza de la Revolution and Playa, as well as in other Havana areas.
Official data refer that Havana currently possesses 12 115 rooms in 64 hotel facilities, and 11 552 private houses with accommodation services.
The MINTUR portfolio has in all 140 projects, 34 of them are regarding with the constitution of mixed companies for the development of new hotel capacities and villages with the highest standards.
These proposals aim to the whole island with development plans for Cienfuegos (two hotels), Camagüey (four hotels), Las Tunas (six hotels) and Holguín (10 hotels).
The manager insisted that the business portfolio promotes, also, 96 administration and commercialization contracts in tourist poles as Pinar del Rio, Isla de la Juventud, Varadero (Matanzas), Villa Clara, Ciego de &Aávila, Granma and Santiago de Cuba.
In Cuba 27 mixed companies operate 4 505 rooms four and five stars, at the same time, 20 international hotel chains are present in our country that, by means of 88 contracts, they manage 43 252 rooms, 63,6 percent of the Cuba hotel plant.
As part of the tourist investment program, this year we plan to finish 14 hotels (two thousand rooms) in Varadero (one), Cayo las Brujas (two), Cayo Guillermo (one), Holguín (two), Viñales (one), Havana (four), Villa Clara (one), Trinidad (one) and Gibara (one).
Last November 26th Cuba achieved the total of four millions 200 thousand foreign visitors, when there’s not much left to complete the aim published by the MINTUR: to reach 4,7 million tourists this year.
