The International Caribbean Film and Environment Festival, Isla Verde, is calling for its third edition, to be held on the Isle of Youth from April 6 to 12, 2025. Until December 26, interested parties may submit their works, with narratives that promote the conservation and protection of the environment and document the active relationship between human beings and nature.
In addition to the competitive sections, the event will host conferences, workshops, concerts, training sessions, exhibitions, thematic cycles, entrepreneurship fair, among other initiatives. According to the regulations, feature films and short films produced between 2023 and 2024 that develop environmental themes and address the active relationship between human beings and nature will be considered for selection in competition.
In the case of international productions, it is an essential condition that the film has not been previously released in Cuba, which does not apply to those created and produced in the national territory. The selected films will be notified by the Organizing Committee of the event on February 10, 2025. Founded in 2022 by the actor, director and National Film Award winner in 2024, Jorge Perugorría, the event aims to provide, from the cinema, a critical perspective on the great challenges of protection of natural resources that the Caribbean faces today.
In addition, it was born as a vital creative space to promote common actions in the region on environmental matters. The Festival constitutes the main platform of the Isla Verde Local Development Project (PDL), based in the Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality, where projects, conferences, training and exchanges associated with sustainability, the circular economy, ecological tourism and the conservation and care of the environment will be developed.
Isla Verde is organized by the PDL Isla Verde, Four Wives, the Antonio Núñez Jiménez Foundation for Nature and Man and the Gorría Gallery Workshop.
