Cuba conquered four titles in sports shooting the last day of July to secure second place in the discipline, behind Mexico at the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games.
A report of Prensa Latina indicates the Cuban delegation won its first crown in the 13th day of the games in standard pistol at 25 meters, through Jorge Grau with a final score of 567.
Later on, the Antilles delegation won gold in standard pistol at 25 meters in the category of team for men, with 1685 points.
Cubans achieved another golden medal in the test of rifle at 50 meters in three positions per team among women, with 3444 points.
Cuba closed the day with the gold medal of Eglys de la Cruz in the individual contest of rifle at 50 meters in three positions, with 451.1 points.
Mexico prevailed in the medal table of the shooting discipline with a total of 27 medals: 13 titles, eight silver medals and six bronzes escorted by Cuba with a balance of 12-10-5.
In Jiujitsu, Cuba conquered two titles and took the best part of the second date of that discipline in the regional Games.
Athletes of the greater Antilles prevailed in the 66 and 73 kilograms divisions in men through Osniel Solis and Magdiel Estrada, respectively.
Solis, with an ippon technique, shattered the resistance of Venezuelan Ricardo Valderrama in the final combat, while Estrada took the lead unswervingly, beating Puerto Rican Augusto Miranda in the fight for the gold.
In the fencing events of the 23rd Centroamerican and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, Cuba obtained a gold medal in the sword women’s team category.with victory of 45-39 over Venezuela in the final.
The Cuban team, made up by Yumirka Rodríguez, Seily Mendoza and Yania Gavilán, did away with the Crown without further ado.
In this way, Cuba was ratified first by countries in this sport, with five gold medals –of seven possible-, followed by Venezuela (1-3-4) and Colombia (1-1-3), second and third, in that order.
On the other hand, Cuban canoeing opened through the big door winning five gold medals –of seven possible- and two bronzes, followed by Venezuela (1-3-4) and Colombia (1-1-3), second and third places, in that order.
In another scenario, that of lake Calima, Cuban canoes opened high their performance by conquering three of the four titles in men’s category.
Representatives of the greater of the Antilles won the kayak races, individual canoe at one thousand meters, through Fidel Vargas and Fernando Jorge, respectively, while the double canoe at the same distance finished first with the couple of Serguey Torres and Jorge.
The other crown of the first date was won by Mexico, with the victory of the couple Javier Lopez and Osbaldo Fuentes in the double-kayak at the one thousand meter distance.
Vargas obtained the gold in the K-1 with timing of 3:38:340 minutes, followed by Mexican Juan Rodriguez, winner of the silver medal by stopping the clocks at (3:40.057) and Dominican Cristian Guerrero, bronze with a chrono of (3:41:013).
After that, Jorge won in the C-1, with a chrono of 3:53:033 minutes, escorted by Mexican Jose Everardo Cristobal, second (3:59:228) and Colombian Sergio David third (4:11:922).
Jorge obtained his second gold medal of the day when he won in the C-2, accompanied by Torres, with a mark of 3:40:451 minutes, leaving behind Colombians like Sergio David and Daniel Pacheco, who got the silver medal (3:43:566), and Mexicans Jorge Gutierrez and Rigoberto Camilo, broze medallists (3:45:602).
The 13th day of the Games ended with Mexico in the first place of the Medal Board with 110 gold, 97 silver and 70 bronze medals, while Cuba boasts 65 gold, 58 silver and 53 bronze. Colombia, in third place, accumulates 58 gold, 66 silver and 74 bronze.
Tomorrow Tuesday,August 1, continue canoeing events with the dispute of three titles in kayac to the distance of 500 meters, individual and doubles for women, and the K-4 for men.
