Cuba Hosts World Festival on International Dance Day
Cuba celebrated the International Dance Day at the request of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Five important Cuban groups will converge on the show, which will take place at the Alicia Alonso Grand Theater of Havana: the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), Contemporary Dance of Cuba (DCC), the National Folkloric Group and the Lizt Alfonso and Acosta Danza companies.
The International Dance Day, established by UNESCO in 1982, is celebrated every April 29 to commemorate the birth of the master and creator of modern ballet, Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810).
For the first time, UNESCO granted Cuba the venue for the celebrations of the International Dance Day. Attendance by artists, officials and members of the diplomatic corps from several countries are expected to attend the gala.
